Artist Statement
My work celebrates the rhythms of the natural world in painting and ceramics, exploring color, light, movement, and organic form.
Originally trained as a painter, I approach both canvas and clay with the same spirit of curiosity and discovery. Whether working in two or three dimensions, I am continually drawn to the beauty, energy, and quiet wonder found in landscapes, flowers, water, and the changing qualities of light. Rather than following a rigid plan, each piece evolves through a balance of intention and discovery, allowing the materials to guide the process and reveal unexpected possibilities.
Painting and ceramics continually inform one another in my practice. Working in clay has deepened my understanding of form and material, while my background in painting shapes the way I think about color, gesture, and surface. My handbuilt vessels are sculptural forms whose surfaces become places for glaze to move, pool, break, and interact during firing. My paintings, in turn, are built through transparent washes of color that create luminosity and depth. Both mediums embrace layering in different ways, inviting a conversation between intention and chance as the materials contribute their own voice.
What continues to fascinate me is the balance between control and chance. A brushstroke, a flowing glaze, or the transformation that occurs in the kiln all remind me that some of the most compelling moments emerge through openness rather than certainty. It is within that space between intention and surprise that the work comes alive.
Through both painting and ceramics, I hope to create moments of joy, calm, and wonder—an invitation to slow down, look closely, and experience the beauty and quiet magic of the natural world.
